Six flats proposed for Golf Links Road site at Ferndown

Six flats are being proposed for the redevelopment of a vacant Golf Links Road site at Ferndown.

Dorset Council is being asked to approve the scheme for No 14 which had previously been occupied by a single storey home.

The planning application says that the site has a number of protected trees, including oaks, concentrated on the front of the plot, which it expects to be retained.

Previous applications for the site have included a large two storey home which was agreed in 2018 but not started, with an application in 2015 for a large house, also approved, but not started.

The current application says the footprint for the block of flats will be similar to the 2015 approved application, set back from the road, with nine parking spaces to the rear and with the development protecting most of the trees.

Said the planning agent in a submission to Dorset Council: “The apartment building is arranged over three floors, with the top floor designed to be within the roof space. The scheme proposes 3 no. three bed apartments and 3 no. two bed apartments. The proposed development would provide a welcome net gain to housing land supply in the plan area,” adding that the site is within about 500 metres of the town centre.

The flats, if approved, will range in size from 94square metres to 161 square metres.

Public comments on the application, ref 2022/07000 on the Dorset Council website, remain open until March 10th.
