New owners at the Albion Pub in Verwood plan to open within weeks

The Albion Pub in Verwood is to reopen under new management six months after closing its doors.

Husband and wife team Jay and Rowena Jones are hoping to begin trading by the end of August.

The news, posted on Facebook, has been well received by locals, saying its great to have the public house back again.

The social media post said: “We only moved in and signed the contracts today, things were slightly delayed due to works etc but we are in and now have a lot to do getting the place back up to scratch, cleaning, sorting the garden and making it all nice for you all!.

“We do hope to have it open before the end of August but this does depend on everything going smoothly. So I will keep you all updated.”

Rowena went on to praise the former landlard for allowing use of the Albion Facebook page.

The couple are aiming to run the Albion as a family pub, with food being a big part of what they are planning, although it might be just drinks to start with.

The Albion closed in February due to increased energy costs and a downturn in recent trade.
