Forest FM has launched a small scale DAB digital radio multiplex, extending listener choice across Verwood and the surrounding area.
The community radio station is now broadcasting locally on DAB+ alongside its existing FM service, shortly after marking 20 years on air.
Forest FM founder Steve Saville told VerwoodToday that the station applied to operate the multiplex to manage costs and protect its digital future.
He said: “Setting up the multiplex was a real challenge and a steep learning curve, but we finally made it.”
Forest FM has also recently joined the small scale DAB multiplexes serving Poole and Bournemouth.
The new Verwood multiplex already carries Bournemouth One, Hot Radio, Hot Gold, News Radio UK Salisbury Radio and Radio Caroline. Steve said further capacity remains available for other stations interested in joining the service.
Forest FM broadcasts from Verwood and was the first community radio station to begin operating in Dorset.
The new multiplex is on channel 7D, which means you’ll have to rescan your receiver to find the new service. Older receivers, like the Pure Evoke with the nice wooden cabinet that we have, won’t be able to receive it as it uses DAB+ like many other more recent additions to digital radio.
