Man in life-threatening condition after collision with lorry

A pedestrian in his 90s has sustained life-threatening injuries after a collision with a lorry in Ferndown.

Officers investigating the road traffic collision are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 5.33pm on Tuesday 5 October 2021 of a collision involving a white artic lorry and a pedestrian on Ringwood Road near to The White Heather pub.

The pedestrian – a man aged in his 90s – sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital by the ambulance service for treatment. His condition is described as life-threatening and his family has been informed.

The road is closed between the junctions of New Road and Church Road while collision investigators examine the scene.

Police Sergeant Sarah Jones, of the traffic unit, said: “An investigation is underway and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to please contact Dorset Police.

“I would also urge any motorists who were travelling in the area at the relevant time to please check their dashcams for any footage of the incident that may assist my enquiries.

“Finally, I would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during the road closures. These are absolutely necessary to allow emergency services to treat the injured man and for an examination of the scene to be carried out.”
