Urgent maintenance work will result in the closure of Edmondsham Road just outside Verwood this week resulting in a long diversion.
The road, which goes from Verwood towards Alderholt and Fordingbridge via the Dorset Heavy Horse Farm, will be closed in both directions 24 hours a day from October 29th to November 1st.
The official diversion route offered by Dorset Council includes a trip via Cranborne via the B3081 and B3078.
There is a shorter route but this involves single track lanes at times and is not suitable for larger vehicles.
