A number of parents are continuing to park on double yellow lines outside Verwood First School and Emmanuel Middle School despite pleas from the headteachers.

In an email to parents on Friday, Verwood First School Headteacher Mr Parsons reminded them about the importance of parking safely after monitoring the drop-off and pick up for three days this week after witnessing a number of incidents.

He says: “Please ensure that you do not park on any yellow lines. These are designated carefully to ensure strong visibility for all.”

Similarly, Mr Christopher, Head of School at Emmanuel Middle School also felt the need to write to parents about it: “If you are dropping off please do so without blocking dropped curbs or on double yellow lines outside the campus gates. It would be devastating if someone was injured.

“Blocking these areas makes it difficult for all users to check for oncoming traffic. I am aware of some near accidents and collisions in the past week. We also need to show consideration for local residents.”

One parent, speaking to VerwoodToday.co.uk said the situation is getting worse: “Despite the continued messages from the schools, and posts on Facebook, people continue to park their cars on double yellow lines, or double parking on narrow streets, making it dangerous for the kids crossing the roads and impossible for emergency vehicles to pass through if needed.”

Mr Parsons also reminded those picking up from Verwood First School or Emmanuel Middle School that the car park is only open to parents or children with a blue badge or where a car park pass has been given out due to exceptional circumstances.

Dorset Council’s advice for anyone who is affected by vehicles parked illegally or causing obstruction is to contact them by dialling 101. They will assess the severity of the obstruction and take action if it is felt to be a priority.
