Person cut free from van in two-vehicle collision on Verwood Road

A man in his 40s had to be cut free from a van following a two-vehicle collision on the B3081 Verwood Road at Baker’s Hanging on Thursday morning.

Fire service, ambulance and Police were all on the scene for most of the morning, and the person was taken to hospital for non-serious injuries.

The incident happened around 9am near the Alderholt turn-off resulting in the closure of the road and traffic congestion on all approaching routes.

The alternative route, via Ringwood Road at Three Legged Cross was also heavily congested as a result, due extra traffic and a delivery lorry blocking one side of the road near the Hillier Garden Centre.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We received a report at 9.19am of a two-vehicle collision near to the junction of Alderholt Road and the B3081 Verwood Road involving a van and a tipper van.

“Officers have attended, along with the fire and ambulance service. A man aged in his 40s was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be serious.

“A man aged in his 20s from Sherborne was arrested on suspicion of a driving offence. He has been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

“The vehicles were recovered and officers left the scene at around 1.20pm.”
