A packed Verwood Memorial Hall fell silent as Sue Kent shared her journey from novice designer to RHS show garden success.
Around 150 people gathered on Saturday 28 February as Verwood and District Horticultural Society welcomed the television gardener to the stage.
Best known for her appearances on Gardeners’ World, Sue spoke about being invited to design a show garden for the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival in 2022 despite limited experience.
She described how the challenge became a turning point, creating a garden centred on daisies and filled with practical ideas. As an ambassador for the Royal Horticultural Society, she also spoke about making gardening accessible and said there is no single right way to garden.
One member said the room was “enthralled” and that you could “hear a pin drop” as she spoke.
The society will hold its Spring Show on Saturday 21 March. Community members can enter exhibits free of charge, with a £400 prize fund available. More details are available on verwoodhorticulturalsociety.co.uk.
