New nursery building planned for Margards Lane

A new proposal to build a nursery at the top of Margards Lane on Church Hill has been submitted to Dorset Council.

Full planning permission has been sought to construct a single-story detached building to use as a children’s nursery with parking, bin and cycle storage.

The development would have 14 car parking spaces, eight bike spaces and enough room for 81 children and 27 staff.

The plot is roughly rectangular and is approximately 0.18ha with residential properties on all sides.

The proposed building would have a gross internal floor area of 517sqm with an outside decked play area of approx. 200sqm. This would provide a reception and lobby area, class rooms, sleep rooms, bathrooms, toilets, utility room, store rooms, kitchen areas, plant room, offices, staff room and meeting room.

A previous application was refused in March 2015 for the erection of a Children’s Day Care Nursery and associated access, car parking, secure cycle storage and servicing, nursery garden and landscaping.

Another application for a block of four flats with garages on the plot was refused in 2005.

The site currently has approval to be used as a nursery but with different specifications.

Objections have already been received from some people who live in the area, saying it will cause noise, traffic problems on the roundabout, and that the church opposite may upset children at the nursery when funerals are being held.
