Three new houses to replace one property on Lake Road

A property in Lake Road, Verwood is to be demolished with three detached houses built on the site.

Dorset Council granted consent for the planning application from Mr and Mrs Alan Dedden for the 0.2 hectare site at No 44. It includes parking provision for ten cars, six more than the existing layout.

Verwood town council made no objection to the proposal during the consultation stage.

Thirteen neighbours had objected to the application, one claiming that a site notice had only been on display for ten minutes and that he and others had received nothing from Dorset Council to make him aware of the application.

Another said that he objected to the new homes, which would overlook his property, the same objection he had lodged to previous applications for the site.

Others were worried about the likely increase in traffic with one telling the council: “a beautiful bespoke house being demolished should not happened.”

Previous applications for the site included demolition of the existing home and replacing it with four detached properties, which were refused in 2017 and 2018.

The council’s tree officer said the new scheme was “a vast improvement” on the previous proposals and allowed development while protecting most of the trees.
