Local volunteers sought for ambassador network

Volunteers are being recruited in Verwood and across the county to help shape how Dorset supports people as they grow older, for a new ambassador network.

Dorset Council is inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to take part, with the aim of building a long-term plan for a more age-friendly area. The scheme follows Dorset becoming the 100th UK community recognised as age-friendly in September last year.

Those involved will promote initiatives in their communities, challenge ageism and encourage residents to share their views. The role also includes supporting consultations and helping develop ideas to improve daily life for older people.

Volunteers will receive training, updates and opportunities to meet others, as well as contribute to an annual feedback event.

Councillor Steve Robinson said Dorset’s ageing population makes the work important, adding that “age isn’t a barrier” to getting involved.

More than 700 residents have already shared views on issues including transport, housing and access to services.
