Verwood history exhibition draws community interest

Visitors from across Verwood attended a local history exhibition at Verwood House Care Home, where residents, historians and community figures shared memories of the town’s past.

The Celebrating Local History Exhibition was held at the Ringwood Road care home and featured displays about Verwood’s development, local families and landmark buildings, including the Methodist Church on Vicarage Road.

Verwood Mayor, Councillor Simon Gibson, was among those who attended, along with local author Jill Coulthard, whose book Verwood: Village to Town records the area’s growth.

Items on display included historical material loaned by Verwood Heritage Centre archivist Linda Munn and a traditional Verwood yellow brick loaned by Rotary Club president Andy Maw.

Jill said it was encouraging to see people “taking an interest in Verwood’s history”, adding: “There are so many stories that deserve to be remembered.”

Home Ambassador Alicia Bartlett said residents enjoyed hearing visitors’ stories and sharing their own memories of the town.
