Edmondsham Road speed limit changed

Edmondsham Road speed limit changed

The speed limit on a stretch of Edmondsham Road in Verwood has been changed following an 18-month campaign by the town’s mayor, Councillor Simon Gibson.

The 30mph zone has been extended to include the entrance to the new housing development at Heathpoult Road, while the 60mph limit now begins beyond the brow of the hill.

The revised boundary means motorists leaving Verwood must remain within the lower speed limit for longer, while those approaching the town will enter the 30mph zone earlier.

Councillor Gibson welcomed the change, which comes 18 months after he first raised the issue and several months after the public consultation closed.

Announcing the news, he said: “Finally!”

He hopes the revised limits will encourage drivers to reduce their speed as they approach Verwood, particularly near the entrance to the housing development.
