McDonald’s plans submitted for Verwood police station site

McDonald’s plans submitted for Verwood police station site

A new McDonald’s restaurant could be built on the site of the police station in Verwood, after plans were submitted for redevelopment.

The proposal outlines the conversion of the existing building to make way for an eat-in restaurant, bringing a major national chain into the town.

Planning documents submitted to Dorset Council set out details for the layout, access, parking and operational arrangements for the site.

If approved, the development would create new jobs and increase food and retail options in the area.

The application will now go through the standard consultation process, with residents and stakeholders able to comment before a decision is made.

The proposal is expected to generate discussion locally, particularly around traffic, impact on nearby businesses and how the site fits into the wider development of Verwood.

Verwood needs a swimming pool; not a McDonalds. That central site would be perfect for a pool. Verwood’s many children are currently healthier than most … help us to keep it that way. We also have a lot of older adults locally; some of whom no longer drive, who would benefit from accessible gentle exercise accessible locally. A pool would be great for those learning to swim (classes), local schools use, elite squads, swimming or aqua exercise classes for fitness, for injury, knee or hip replacement rehabilitation for all ages. Please note there are no diving facilities at all between Southampton and Poole. Please do not use this small town’s, rarely available site, development opportunity for a McDonalds; it will negatively impact upon both the town’s current safe reputation, and it’s healthy culture for residents. I worry it will discourage elderly and/or vulnerable residents from using the Doctor Surgery there, that and the currently well used Verwood Hub (Community Centre); if residents have to encounter large groups of teenagers hanging around outside in order to access those essential services. McDonalds could even unintentionally facilitate a local county line; we are vulnerable to this due to our location … and especially as Verwood does not have it’s own police station. Ferndown McDonalds is not that far away and is already well used by the local teenagers, who are all at school in Ferndown or elsewhere outside of Verwood; Verwood does not have it’s own Upper or Senior School.
