Entries are open for the 2027 Dorset Town of Culture title, with Verwood Town Council yet to decide whether it will apply.
Mayor of Verwood, Councillor Simon Gibson, told VerwoodToday the council had not formally discussed a bid but would consider the opportunity.
He said: “I want to see more cultural events in Verwood that celebrate the town, but there are specific requirements to apply for this award that might stop an application this year.”
The successful town will receive £30,000 from Dorset Council, which must be match-funded locally, for a year-long programme of arts, events and creative activity.
Verwood Town Council is already planning events to mark the town’s forthcoming 40th birthday.
Councillor Gibson added the council would examine whether those celebrations could fit with a Town of Culture bid, adding that “either way, Verwood will have a year with a great series of events”.
Applications for the 2027 title close on Monday 13 July 2026.
