Plans have been submitted for a new super grid electricity transformer and noise enclosure at Mannington Substation in Three Legged Cross.
A planning application has been registered with Dorset Council for the development at the existing electricity facility on Holt Road.
The proposals include a new Super Grid Transformer and an associated building designed to reduce noise from the equipment.
The application, reference P/STA/2026/05663, was registered on 9 October 2026 and is awaiting a decision.
Mannington Substation is an important part of the regional electricity network, helping transmit electricity across Dorset and neighbouring areas.
The latest proposals follow significant investment at the site, including the delivery of a 120-tonne transformer earlier this year.
National Grid transported the enormous piece of equipment from Poole Harbour to Mannington in May, using specialist vehicles for the 37-kilometre journey.
The substation is also connected to wider electricity infrastructure improvements, including refurbishment work on the transmission line between Mannington and Nursling in Hampshire.
It has not yet been confirmed whether the latest application relates to the transformer delivered in May or represents an additional installation.
Dorset Council will consider the proposals before making a planning decision.
