Dutch company chooses Verwood for first site

An electric vehicle charging company from the Netherlands has chosen east Dorset as the location for its first fast charging station in the UK. Leap 24 officially opened the facility in Verwood yesterday, with co-founder Pelle Schlichting flying in especially for the event. Verwood Town councillor Toni Coombes did the first 'plug in' at the EV charger on Cheviot Way, and said it's a great service for Verwood and the whole area, whilst Pelle told us it's the first of many planned for the country. Appeal for information after reported assault leaves man with a broken jaw

Officers investigating a reported assault in Verwood that left a man with a broken jaw are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Dorset Police received a report at just before one o'clock on Saturday afternoon that a man in his 30s had been assaulted in the gravel car park at Verwood Town Football Club. It was reported that the victim had been involved in a verbal dispute with another man, who then proceeded to punch him in the face, causing two fractures to his jaw and damaging his glasses. Following enquiries, a man aged in his 30s from West Parley was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage. He has been released under investigation as officers carry out further enquiries.

Up to 40 firefighters from nine stations tackle large heath blaze at Verwood

Fire crews have been dealing with a large heath blaze in Verwood. At the height of the fire, around 40 firefighters from nine stations were tackling the flames at Boveridge Heath. They included Christchurch, Wimborne and Poole. The fire was discovered in undergrowth at just before six o'clock this morning. Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service described it as a large and well-developed fire in an area where access is difficult due to the density of the foilage.
