Pedestrian in his 80s dies following collision in West Moors

A man in his 80s has died after sustaining serious injuries in a collision involving a car in West Moors. The incident happened just after 7.30am this morning when Police received a report of a collision involving a black Nissan X-Trail and a pedestrian in Station Road, close to the junction with Glenwood Road. Emergency services attended and the road was closed until the early afternoon to allow for a detailed examination of the scene to take place.

Man charged and due to appear in court in connection with fatal road traffic collision in East Dorset last year

A man has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in East Dorset. At around 9.30pm on the 16th September last year, Dorset Police received a report of a collision in Hurn Road, between Ringwood and Matchams, when a blue BMW 1 series left the carriageway and sustained extensive damage. A passenger in the vehicle – named by her family as 18-year-old Laionie Kennard from Verwood – sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A man aged in his 20s from Wiltshire was arrested in connection with the incident and has now been charged with causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving. He's due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on the 20th of December.

Verwood man suffers serious injuries after collision near Wimborne

A 21-year-old man from Verwood was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic collision near Wimborne last night. Dorset Police received a report at around half past six about the incident on Cranborne Road near the Horton Inn, involving a blue Nissan Qashqai and a red Triumph Toledo. The driver of the Toledo was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment whilst the driver and passengers of the Nissan sustained minor injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Dutch company chooses Verwood for first site

An electric vehicle charging company from the Netherlands has chosen east Dorset as the location for its first fast charging station in the UK. Leap 24 officially opened the facility in Verwood yesterday, with co-founder Pelle Schlichting flying in especially for the event. Verwood Town councillor Toni Coombes did the first 'plug in' at the EV charger on Cheviot Way, and said it's a great service for Verwood and the whole area, whilst Pelle told us it's the first of many planned for the country.
