Two chalet homes proposed near Verwood Scout Hut

Two chalet homes proposed near Verwood Scout Hut

Plans have been submitted to build two chalet-style homes on land next to the Guides and Scout buildings in Verwood.

The application, lodged with Dorset Council, seeks permission to develop a 0.1 hectare plot of scrubby woodland beside Green Acres on Manor Road. The site sits between existing homes to the north and west, the Scout Hut and its car park to the east, and Manor Road to the south.

The scheme would see two three-bedroom properties built on the triangular parcel, with parking and access taken from Manor Road, right next to the new traffic calming measure installed in recent years.

The land is currently vacant, and planning documents describe it as enclosed by surrounding development and close to local schools, shops and bus routes.

The site has a planning history – a previous proposal for housing was refused in 2019 and later dismissed at appeal on Green Belt grounds.

In new supporting documents, the applicant argues that changes to national planning policy and Dorset Council’s current housing land supply position mean the principle of limited development should be reconsidered.

Dorset Council will now assess the application before making a decision.

The building nearest is the guide hall nothing to do with the scouts and I wouldn’t describe either building as a hut.
